Vince Cable explains 'war on Murdoch' secret recording

Business Secretary Vince Cable said there were "veiled threats" that the Liberal Democrats would be "done over" in the News International press if he made the "wrong decision" over News Corp's bid for BSkyB.

He was explaining to the Leveson Inquiry into media ethics why he was recorded saying he had "declared war" on Rupert Murdoch by two undercover Daily Telegraph reporters.

He said he had been in a tense and emotional frame of mind following a "near riot" outside his constituency office when he "off-loaded" some "pent-up feelings".
