Care home reforms to tackle child sex abuse by gangs

The government has launched plans to combat the sexual exploitation by gangs of children in care homes.

Currently, nearly half of children are placed in homes outside of the borough they come from, and, according to police, around 10,000 children in care go missing every year.

The plans - affecting children in England - follow the conviction in May of nine men from Rochdale who had run a sexual exploitation and trafficking ring, which abused young teenage girls.

Ed Thomas reports.
