UK families 'need £37,000 income'

A family with two children needs an income of £36,800 a year to have a "socially acceptable" standard of living in the UK, anti-poverty charity the Joseph Rowntree Foundation suggests.

Rising childcare and transport costs, combined with cuts to benefits, have hit families hard, according a report commissioned by the charity from the social policy research unit at Loughborough University .
