More cautious approach to arms exports urged

Conservative MP Sir John Stanley, chairman of the committee on arms export controls says the government needs a more cautious approach to the export of arms.

He said the fact the UK had been forced to revoke so many licences in 2011 meant there were "fundamental flaws in the judgement used in the system".

The committee are urging the government to review arms sales to authoritarian regimes to ensure equipment is not used to repress citizens.
