Is an economic recovery in sight?

New jobless figures may suggest that an economic recovery in the UK is in sight.

Unemployment has fallen to its lowest total for over a year - down to 7.9% - but there has been an increase in the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance.

Mervyn King, the governor of the Bank of England, warned that Britain faces the "unappealing" mix of a weak recovery and high inflation.

Speaking on The World at One, the Treasury Minister David Gauke, explained that the "circumstances are difficult… but we are moving in the right direction."
