Woolwich suspects: Piecing together the back story

The two men who were shot by police after the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich on Wednesday remain under arrest in hospital this morning.

Michael Adebolajo, is a British man of Nigerian descent who came from a devout Christian family but who converted to Islam after leaving college, and Michael Adebowale, is a 22-year-old thought to have lived in Greenwich.

It will be some time before the full story of the two men's backgrounds is known - but attention is already focusing on their past in parts of south and east London.

The Today programme's Tom Bateman reports.

First broadcast on the Today programme on Friday 24 May.
