Councillor admits 'failings' over Corby land sale

Corby council has been accused of acting unlawfully and missing out on millions of pounds by selling land too cheaply.

A site at St James, Corby, now being developed by Tesco, was sold by the Labour-led borough council for £82,000. The BBC has seen a council email which states the land was worth £8m a year later, in 2011.

Councillor Tom Beattie, the current Labour leader of Corby, told BBC Radio 4's File on 4 programme that he was unhappy with the deal and that "clearly, there were failings".

He said he had no idea the land was going to be sold.
