Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe 'sorry letter didn't get through'

The Metropolitan Police commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, has apologised for the fact that a letter intended for the families of the schoolgirls missing in Syria did not reach them.

He expressed sympathy for the "terrible situation" the families are in.

"You can only half imagine what a parent is going through at this time, so in that sense I'm sorry that they're in that situation."
