Fresh claims over Cyril Smith abuse probe

The Home Secretary Theresa May says she "hopes and expects" that anyone who gives evidence about child abuse to the Public Inquiry will not be prosecuted under the Official Secrets Act.

Her comments come after the Officer who blew the whistle on the way the Cyril Smith investigation was shut down claimed that at the time he and others were threatened with the Act, if they said anything about what had happened.

BBC Newsnight's Nick Hopkins has been looking at the debate over the Act.
