The Beslan siege remembered

On 1 September 2004 Chechen separatists stormed a school in the southern Russia town of Beslan, holding more than 1,000 children and adults hostage.

The siege ended in heavy gunfire and explosions and over 330 people lost their lives, 186 of whom were children.
