Thames Water, South East Water and Southern Water bring in hosepipe bans

Hosepipe bans have been introduced by water authorities in parts of southern England.

People who flout the bans, which follow one of the driest two-year periods on record, face fines of up to £1,000.

The ban affects customers of Thames Water, South East Water and Southern Water but users in Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are not affected yet.

The government has urged householders to be "smarter about how we use water".
