Thousands attend first day of Birmingham Pride despite rain

Thousands of people took to the streets for the start of the Birmingham Pride event, despite heavy rain.

The annual lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender festival began with a carnival procession from Victoria Square to Hurst Street.

Celebrations were due to continue until late on Sunday with artists including Gabrielle and Katy B performing.

Organiser Lawrence Barton said it was amazing "come rain or shine."
