Birmingham's bin strike costs city '£40,000 a day'

Birmingham's long-running bin strike is costing £40,000 a day, the city council says.

Agency staff have been drafted in to cope with uncollected rubbish piling up on streets since the strike - over proposed changes to working practices - began seven weeks ago.

The union Unite says members could carry on striking until Christmas.
