Toddler pierced in eye with pencil recovers

A toddler from Bath, who doctors say was just a millimetre away from death after a pencil went through her eye socket, has made a remarkable recovery.

Wren Bowell tripped over and landed on the writing implement which then lodged in her brain.

Surgeons at Frenchay Hospital near Bristol operated on the youngster for six hours.

BBC reporter Ali Vowles spoke to Wren's father, Martyn, at their home in Peasedown St John, and Ian Pople, a neurosurgeon at Frenchay Hospital.
