New smartphone app launched in Bristol to rival Uber

A new smartphone app has been launched in Bristol to compete with Uber.

The owners of the Braxi app hope it will win back business lost to the worldwide success of the ride-hailing app.

Braxi will work in a similar way to Uber, which allows people to hire cabs at short notice via mobiles.

However, unlike Uber, Braxi drivers will have to be licensed by Bristol City Council. Uber drivers can be licensed by other councils.

Uber says it welcomes competition "as it forces everyone to offer a better service".
