Cambridge in £1bn project to cut carbon emissions

Cambridge has started a £1bn community programme to help cut the city's carbon emissions.

The UK's target of an 80% cut in carbon emissions by 2050 was described by Professor Douglas Crawford-Brown, of the Cambridge Retrofit Project, as one of the most ambitious in the world.

He said the only way to hit the target was with big community projects.

The plan is to encourage businesses, householders and the city's historic colleges to make buildings more energy efficient. It is hoped the project will result in energy savings of £1.5bn.

BBC Look East's Mike Liggins reports.
