Strong winds thwart Round the Island Race

Blustery weather created rough conditions for those taking part in the annual Round the Island Race.

More than 70 boats were pulled out before the start by race organisers and a number were forced to retire.

The event, in its 81st year, saw more than 1,600 vessels enter to compete in the 50 nautical-mile course around the Isle of Wight.
