Science ship starts final voyage

The research ship Discovery is being prepared for its last voyage in Southampton.

The vessel has spent 50 years helping scientists unlock the secrets of the deep and has travelled 1.5 million nautical miles.

Launched in 1962, Discovery was the first ship in the UK to have satellite navigation and the first to have a computer on board.

In recent years, the ship has been used in research to understand what is happening to the Gulf Stream.

The final voyage begins on Monday.
