Open mic night at the Angel Inn, Worcester - 03.01.12

The open mic theme for the new year continued as I trotted down to the Angel Inn for their impromptu Tuesday night soiree, as usual kicked off by hostess Tina V of This Wicked Tongue with her keyboard-accompanied solos.

Most Tuesdays the Angel open mic is a medley of semi-acoustic guitar acts but a couple of bands had been scheduled for this post-new year slot - and great to see that Kidderminster's Time Of The Mouth are moving from strength to strength. They've now got confidence in bucketloads as they wheel out great original numbers like Take Me With You and Only Way Out - I can't help but feel that this still incredibly young outfit fronted-up by Chris Jones could make some major waves in the year to come.

This was the very first gig from what could be a promising new band - youngsters Lotty, Beth, Tom, Rob and Nick have formed a grungy five-piece called Broken North and with original numbers already like Bitter Sweetheart and Do You Remember.

An always unpredictable set to close off proceedings at The Angel from the ever-enigmatic Craigus Barry with numbers like Clocks, Shapes and Dali thrown into the mix - before a thoroughly enjoyable mix 'n' mash jam session - great fun!
