Britain's first police dogs at work in Hull

British Pathe footage shows Britain's first police dogs catching criminals on the docks in Hull

The first four dogs - Jim, Vic, Mick and Ben - patrolled Hull Docks more than 100 years ago under the control of the North Eastern Railway Police.

They were specially trained to catch thieves and deal with disorder, and were so successful the scheme spread to other parts of the country.

In Hull, city police joined forces with the railway company to expand the use of dogs in policing.
