Tony Nicklinson 'would liven up the room' before stroke

A friend and former rugby club team-mate of Tony Nicklinson has paid tribute to his "strong character".

Gezz Higgins, from Kent, said Mr Nicklinson, who died on Wednesday, would liven up any room he entered before he suffered locked-in syndrome.

The 58-year-old, who was known as "Royals" at Cranbrook Rugby Club in Kent, was paralysed from the neck down after suffering a stroke in 2005 and described his life since then as a "living nightmare".

This footage is from a live BBC South East Today bulletin.
