Fire-damaged school: St Mary's College in Leyland reopens

The head teacher of a Lancashire school which was badly damaged by a fire two days before the new school year was due to start said she was "beyond excited" it had reopened.

A blaze broke out at St Mary's Catholic Technology College in Leyland on 8 September.

More than 400 pupils have returned to the school.

Head teacher Kathryn McNicholas said: "It is still going to be challenging but the over-riding emotion is one of pure happiness to just be back home."

Pupils at St Mary's Catholic Technology College in Leyland have been taught at the old Ribbleton Hall High in Preston.
