Evenia Mauongea: Appeal for her to stay in UK

Support is growing to keep a woman in the UK after she was detained by immigration officers and threatened with deportation.

Evenia Mauongea, who has become an active member of the community in Leicester for the last 10 years, was a vocal opponent of the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe.

Her friends from the Zimbabwe Association fear she will be in danger if she is sent back to the country.

Friends and family of Evenia, whose children and grandchildren are British citizens, have sent a plea to the Home Office for her release and her local choir will sing at the city's Town Hall Square.
