Bees create buzz in Kew Gardens art installation hive

An art installation that takes its inspiration from a beehive has opened in Kew Gardens.

The Hive is constructed from 170,000 parts, including thousands of pieces of aluminium.

There are 1,000 LED lights dotted around its core which glow and fade, while a soundtrack hums in response to the activity of real bees in a beehive elsewhere in Kew.

The sound and light within the Hive changes as the energy levels in the real beehive surge, which is designed to give visitors an insight into life inside a bee colony.
