Merseyside pupils step in after school trip funding cut

Pupils at a Merseyside special school faced with a funding cut to their annual trip have decided to raise the money themselves.

Newfield Special School in Thornton, which teaches pupils that have been permanently excluded elsewhere, has previously provided children with an adventure weekend.

However, funding for the trip has had to be cut from the school's budget, leading pupils to take part in various money-raising activities to collect the £3,000 needed.

The children even wrote to Prime Minister David Cameron to ask him to pass a collection tin around in the House of Commons.
