Free range egg producers hit by new EU rules

Free range egg producers have suffered because new EU laws banning battery hens means they are not always being paid a premium price for their eggs.

The British Retail Consortium said there were now difficulties getting enough eggs which comply with the new rules.

Because the UK is not importing the number that it once did, free range eggs are being downgraded to fill the gap.
