Henley Royal Regatta 'taking town's business away'

Retailers in Henley-on-Thames have said its famous regatta is taking business away from the town.

Henley Royal Regatta attracts thousands of visitors each summer who purchase from the temporary "shopping village" by the river.

Gillian Nahum, from Henley Partnership, said the event came at a difficult time, with seven of the town's shops having closed in the last four weeks.

"Some people actually shut [during the event] because they say the footfall into town itself is really poor," she added.
