Giant willow aphid mysteries studied by Harper Adams University

University researchers in Shropshire have spent more than a decade attempting to unravel the mysteries of an insect.

The giant willow aphid has been studied by researchers at Harper Adams, near Newport, for 15 years.

And despite the scientific work, the experts still do not know why it has a shark's fin on its back.

They are also still trying to find out where it disappears to for six months of the year.

The research forms part of BBC Midlands Today's Springwatch series of reports this week, with Environment Correspondent David Gregory-Kumar.
