Bid for £3m to protect Staffordshire Moorlands landscape
Countryside organisations have bid for £3m to protect the Staffordshire Moorlands landscape which they claim is "under threat".
The Peak District National Park Authority said it wanted the money from the Heritage Lottery fund to restore disused barns and maintain hay meadows and grasslands on the South West Peak.
The funding would also create apprenticeships in countryside management, it said.
Ken Smith from the authority said: "With farming in decline that has an impact on the environment and wildlife as well as the local communities...we want to reverse that decline."
The partnership which has applied for funding also involves the RSPB and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
