Redcar SSI workers thrown Christmas party by nine-year-old boy

A caring nine-year-old boy has organised a special Christmas party for the redundant Teesside steelworkers' and their families.

Redcar's SSI Blast Furnace finally shut down in October, putting thousands out of work from both the Teesside steel plant itself, and in the associated supply chain.

But Ben Hebden from Marske has been determined to bring the steelworkers some Christmas cheer.

After launching his own Facebook site to raise funds and co-ordinate the event, Ben organised a big party, with presents, for all those families who were facing a bleak Christmas.

Former SSI worker Paul Frankland said it was "fantastic" to see the children happy.
