Wallsend telephone mast protest

Residents in a North Tyneside housing estate have vowed to continue their opposition to the installation of a mobile phone mast.

People in Wallsend have been parking their cars on the grass verge for more than four months to prevent workmen putting up the mast on behalf of mobile phone companies 02 and Vodafone.

Planners had originally rejected the application, but that decision was overturned on appeal.

Stephanie Lloyd reports.
