York children in train danger pilot project

Pupils at a North Yorkshire primary school have taken part in a pilot project about rail safety.

Staff from East Coast, the rail company which runs York station, spent a day with nine-year-olds from Poppleton Road primary in York to teach them about the dangers of trespassing on railway lines.

Steve Soards, York train station manager, said: "A station is not a playground.

"It's good to start with children of a young age so they can understand the dangers of railways."
