Good Friday Agreement
Representatives from across the political spectrum in Northern Ireland, along with the British and Irish governments, reached agreement after nearly two years of talks.
The outcome was the Good Friday Agreement, setting out plans for a Northern Ireland Assembly and a North South Ministerial Council linking the Belfast and Dublin governments.
The agreement is subject to ratification by referendums in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
