Peter Robinson explains decision to step down

Peter Robinson says the time was right for him to step down from his roles as Northern Ireland first minister and DUP leader.

Mr Robinson told BBC News NI Political Editor Mark Devenport that it was important to have a new leader in place in time for next year's assembly elections.

He also said the Northern Ireland Assembly was now stable enough for him to make the announcement.
