Government's retirement plan to 'boost economy'

A proposal to phase out the Default Retirement Age (DRA) this year will boost the economy, Liberal Democrat MP Ed Davey has claimed.

The plan means employers will no longer be allowed to dismiss staff just because they have reached the age of 65.

Mr Davey, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, said the plans would offer older workers "more choice", and would be a boost to the economy.
