Tory minister Michael Gove appeals for Hull Lib Dem votes

Education secretary Michael Gove told the House of Commons it "would be wise" for people in Hull to vote Liberal Democrat.

The Conservative cabinet minister said students might not keep travel grants if Labour - the city's main opposition group - was to take over, and a Lib Dem authority would also "fulfil its statutory duty".

He smiled and winked after his comments, before adding people should vote Conservative where his party was "well-placed to defeat Labour".
