May to review police powers after violent protests

Police powers could be strengthened in the wake of the violence which marred the demonstration against government cuts in central London on Saturday.

Home Secretary Theresa May told the Commons that she is willing to grant the police further powers to prevent violence at future public events.

Mrs May told MPs that she will consider banning "known hooligans" from attending rallies and marches.
