Ken Clarke to 'choose words more carefully' after rape row

Justice Secretary Ken Clarke has said he will choose his words more carefully in future following the row over his comments on rape.

In an interview on BBC 5 Live, Mr Clarke disputed reports that the average sentence for rape was five years, saying "serious rape" attracted a much longer sentence.

He laughed off suggestions he should resign over the issue, saying that "to resign for proposals I've never made or thought of making would be just a little odd".
