Ed Miliband fears 'lost generation' as deficit tackled

Ed Miliband has said the government's claim it is helping young people is being "blown apart" by the way it is tackling the reduction in the deficit.

The Labour leader said in a speech that "the next generation is bearing so much of the burden", citing higher taxes for families with children and the removal of financial support for children staying in education.

He added that "piling debts on our students... will put people off going to university", and that those debts would make it "far harder for the next generation to start a business or buy a home".
