House of Lords: First elections in 2015 says Tory leader
The Conservative leader of the House of Lords claimed the first elections to a new-style Senate, or second chamber for the reformed Lords, could be held in May 2015.
Lord Strathclyde explained coalition plans to change the Lords where 80% of members would eventually be elected for a 15-year term, and not able to stand for re-election.
He said of the planned election: "It will be a very great moment and the end of a story that has run for over 100 years."
