Tony Blair: UK could still join euro currency

Former British prime minister Tony Blair said the UK could still join the euro currency one day.

When asked by Jon Sopel if Gordon Brown should be thanked for keeping the UK out of the euro, he said: "I was always absolutely in favour of doing it politically - and still am by the way."

But he added: "Unless you can make a compelling case for it, economically, you were never going to win a referendum on it. And the case for Britain joining isn't compelling. It may become that at a certain point."

Jon Sopel travelled to the Middle East to talk to Mr Blair: the full film be on Sunday's Politics Show : Sunday from 1100-1210 BST on BBC One, and later on iPlayer.
