Rebekah Brooks' resignation welcomed by Ed Miliband

The leader of the Labour Party, Ed Miliband, has said he welcomes the resignation of Rebekah Brooks as chief executive of News International.

Her departure follows days of increasing pressure on her to step down as the phone hacking crisis grew.

Mr Miliband said he was pleased by her decision to "accept responsibility for what happened on her watch".
