Ken Clarke and Speaker John Bercow chat picked up on live mic

Justice Secretary Ken Clarke and Speaker John Bercow have been caught on live mic discussing why Nick Clegg's appearance at Prime Minister's Questions was allowed to over-run by 10 minutes.

As MPs filed out of the chamber, Mr Clarke approached the Speaker's chair and told the Speaker that his colleague, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond, was "deeply alarmed" that the session had been allowed to run on until 12.40pm.

Mr Clarke then added that he personally thought it was "more interesting" than "south western water", an apparent reference to the debate being held later on Wednesday into the water industry bill.

The Speaker, who says "he'll just have to wait" in reply to the comments about Mr Hammond, then adds after the water reference: "I entirely agree."
