Griff Rhys Jones on appeal of the British high street

Griff Rhys Jones called for people to join their civic societies - where he is president - to help improve their town centres.

He named-checked Woodbridge, Hadleigh and Cardigan as examples of pleasant towns to visit, but also praised major shopping centres.

Housing minister Grant Shapps explained how 371 towns applied for government help - where 24 will be successful. But he also announced "a package of measures" would come later for all of them.

Their discussion followed a Daily Politics film on efforts to help the High Street
