Equalities chief: 'Fatuous' to deny race factors in Rochdale case
Racial and cultural factors cannot be dismissed as playing a part in the Rochdale sex grooming case, the out-going head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission has said.
Trevor Phillips told The Andrew Marr Show it is "fatuous" to deny racial and cultural factors. Nine men of Pakistani and Afghan origin were jailed for offences including rape last week.
Mr Philips also said he was worried that in a closed community people may have been afraid to speak out about what was happening.
