Clegg: Britain must shake off 'snobbish' class attitudes

Nick Clegg says Britain's current class attitudes are "snobbish" and are creating a divided society and "hobbling our economy".

Addressing a conference organised by the Sutton Trust, the deputy prime minister said Britain must create an open society where more children from poorer backgrounds are given access to top universities.

Mr Clegg used the speech to talk about government plans to publish a "snapshot" of social mobility in the UK using 17 "trackers", including birth weight, social background and eligibility for free school meals.
