Nick Clegg: Lib Dems 'told to back BSkyB bid'

Nick Clegg says he was told the Liberal Democrats may receive rough treatment from the Murdoch press if they did not support News Corp's BSkyB bid.

Giving evidence to the Leveson Inquiry into press standards, the Deputy Prime Minister said one of his MPs, Norman Lamb, claimed to have been told to "expect unfavourable treatment from the Murdoch press" if the Lib Dems were not "open" to the bid.

Mr Clegg's comments came as MPs prepared to vote on a Labour bid to have Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt investigated over his handling of the bid.
