Hague: 'Our measures are working'

The Prime Minister is to warn that Britain "may not have a future" unless "difficult, painful decisions" are taken, when he closes the Conservative Party Conference.

David Cameron will tell Tory activists that the UK is in a global race and has to cut its budget deficit or face long-term decline.

The foreign secretary, William Hague, said the Government had already taken steps to make Britain more competitive.
