Labour retains three by-election seats

Labour has held onto seats in parliamentary by-elections in Rotherham, Middlesbrough and Croydon North.

The vote also showed a rise in support for the UK Independence Party.

They had their most successful by-election result ever, coming second in Rotherham and Middlesbrough, and third in Croydon North.
