Dr Peter Carter warns NHS faces 'real strains'

There are "real strains" on the NHS particularly with regard to the care of older people, the chief executive of the Royal College of Nursing, Dr Peter Carter, has warned.

But in a week when MP Ann Clwyd raised the issue of care and compassion in nursing in parliament, Dr Carter insisted that the "vast majority" of nurses were upholding standards.
